Neverland
Rhys Ifans may be the criminal Jimmy Hook and Charlie Rowe is loyal follower Peter in Syfys Peter Pan prequel Neverland.
Shot in Dublin and Genoa by Parallel Films with respect to MNG Films in colaboration with Syfy and Sky Movies and written by RHI Entertainment. Executive producers, Alan Moloney, Mark Grenside, Robert Halmi Sr., Robert Halmi Junior. producer, Redmond Morris author-director, Nick Willing.Jimmy Hook - Rhys Ifans
Elizabeth Bonny - Anna Friel
Peter - Charlie Rowe
Holy Guy - Raoul Trujillo
Tiger Lilly - Q'Orianka KilcherLess a reimagining of "Peter Pan" than a more sophisticated cut-and-paste job, the only real-fleetingly-spectacular "Neverland" weds J.M. Barrie's classic to components from "Avatar" and "The Exorcist," with dashes of "Oliver Twist" permanently measure. The 4-hour Syfy miniseries signifies the most recent adaptation of the beloved public-domain property written by RHI Entertainment, depending on worldwide support to invest in an opulent fantasy featuring accomplished stars in smallish roles. To express it's less dreadful than recent similarly designed co-productions unleashed underneath the Halmis' shingle is accurate, but additionally qualifies as damnation with faint sprinkles of fairy dust. Written and directed by Nick Willing (who also did "Alice" and "Container Guy" for that Halmis and Syfy), the pic recasts Neverland like a heavily wooded planet whose local fauna includes giant alligators and small tree sprites, one of these is Tinkerbell (voiced by Keira Knightley). Individuals are introduced for this strange land using a glowing orb, after which trapped there, without aging, through all eternity. The disjointed residents include pirates headed with a female captain, Elizabeth Bonny ("Pushing Daisies'" Anna Friel, terribly ill used) a gang of ragamuffins brought by Peter (Charlie Rowe) along with a Native-American tribe, whose ranks range from the princess Tiger Lilly (Q'Orianka Kilcher). Finally, there's Jimmy Hook ("Anonymous'" Rhys Ifans), an earlier twentieth century London criminal whose minions include several youthful pickpockets, headed through the dashing and ingenious Peter. Loyal to Jimmy, Peter also passes with the glowing portal, but starts to doubt their connection as Jimmy occupies using the pirates and Bonny, who provides hiding for plans of utilizing the orb to attain unequalled energy. As built, it comes down to a Peter Pan prequel lacquered track of a revisionist space-age fresh paint job. For the cast, Ifans' callous, gimlet-eyed Jimmy may be the obvious highlight, as the cameos incorporate a drive-by Charles Dance and Bob Hoskins as Smee, reprising the role he performed in Steven Spielberg's "Hook." Knowledge of Peter Pan really works from the small just as much for it, since most of the little twists are extremely telegraphed. Nor will it assist the visual effects are uneven, with flight moments that only from time to time get off the floor, and assorted CGI beasties, the very best as being a giant spider. The experience, similarly, is noisy and chaotic although not particularly stirring, including an interminable fight sequence close to the finish. There is no mystery surrounding why systems are attracted to those Halmi productions -- delivering, because they do, large promotable game titles in a reduced cost, while creating enough arresting shots to yield good-searching promotions. It comes down to as low-risk as original programming will get, and it is labored previously. Nevertheless, "Neverland" particularly has a considerable dose of irony. Because while among the fantastic facets of the Peter Pan mythos may be the commitment of eternal youth, when it had been finally over, I felt as though I'd aged about ten years watching it.Camera, Seamus Deasy production designer, Amanda McArthur editor, Allan Lee music, Ronan Hardiman visual effects supervisor, Lee Wilson casting, Amy Hubbard. 4 HOURSWith: Bob Hoskins, Charles Dance, Keira Knightley (voice) Contact John Lowry at john.lowry@variety.com

Deadline reports that Netflix has outbid prominent pay cable networks to attain the rights to the upcoming new season of "Arrested Development," a series of episodes that will reportedly pave the way for a big-screen comeback. Bringing a series back from cancellation almost never happens, but then, 'Arrested' always was about as unconventional as they get, so it seems totally appropriate that this show that broke the mold is smashing it to pieces once again." Though no deals have been signed between 20th Century Fox TV and the former "Arrested Development" cast, it's said that everybody from Jason Bateman to Michael Cera have expressed their interest in the comeback. In other words, stop looking so blue: the Bluths are almost back! Watch the video below for our list of "Arrested Development" wishes. New Author For Godzilla
David Goyer makes way of Max Borenstein"Everyone's got a very strong opinion aboutGodzillaand what it must be,In . director Gareth Edwards told Empire taken. Plus it seems that many are now being due to the opportunity to acquire their say: what is the news today is always that Legendary's undertake the atomic Japanese titan just acquired another author.Max Borenstein might be the most recent incumbent within the writing desk, and like his predecessor David Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Dark evening), she's plenty of history with Legendary, getting done the scripts for your gestating Jimi Hendrix biopic, as well as the Seventh Boy, the variation of Ernest Delaney's The Spook's Apprentice. Furthermore, you will find Art In The Steal, which Warners are developing with Zac Efron. The initial author we understood about, carrying out a just a little early publicity announcing Legendary's scoring the Godzilla rights from Toho, was David Callaham, who written The Expendables and Disaster. There has been then reviews of rewrites by Edwards themselves when the Monsters director came aboard most most likely people will probably be ongoing, since he remains top dog. Goyer then turned up inside the summer season, but following a few several days of musing it appears that concerned still believe there's play the role of accomplished. The project remains engrossed in secrecy, so there's still no real indication from the products shape this new Godzilla will need, aside from Legendary's oft-repeated promise that they wish to go the Batman route of improving but remaining consistent with the character's roots. Producer John Rogers also taunted other monsters within the Godzilla pantheon a year ago.But that initially-guaranteed summer season 2012 release date is becoming pretty definitively out. We're choosing to consider that Legendary and Edwards are purchasing and selling momentum for quality: keen to obtain their Godzilla absolutely right, inside the wake of Roland Emmerich's unloved 1998 version.

Cinemax struggles with originals on Monday
The summer season three debut of 'Bored to Death' received only 240,000 audiences.Enlightened has faltered within the Monday work on Cinemax. The cabler has fought to discover another beachhead for originals beyond Sunday evening.
Lombardo Cinemax is searching back on its try out programming comedies on Monday this fall and feeling just a little, well, enlightened. The pay cabler, which has more original programming laptop or computer can match its regular Sunday-evening schedule, thought we would air newbie series "Enlightened" as well as the third season of "Bored to Dying" on Mondays. The final results were not good, raising queries about how Cinemax will uncover property to program the numerous originals inside the works well with next season. While Cinemax professionals always stress the extended cumulative viewer totals would be the most helpful indicator a show's performance, "Enlightened" is really a disappointment no matter the way the amounts are dissected. The Laura Dern starrer came only 210,000 audiences due to its March. 10 launch which is now calculating 175,000 per episode and 1.5 million for your week. Within the season-three debut, "Bored to Dying" received just 240,000. That's reduced the 1.millions of who up-to-date towards the "Bored to Dying" season premiere this past year, when the comedy had the benefit of a "Boardwalk Empire" lead-in. Cinemax programming topper Michael Lombardo states it could havebeen a difficulty on any new shows to attain traction on Mondays. "As prone to consider using a completely new evening every week, it probably might have been smarter to have it completed in summer season," Lombardo told Variety, "which is not the most effective idea to make it happen around the evening where you stand rising against new fall shows and professional football. Nobody could've suspected how competitive Mondays could be. Being aware of what everyone knows now, we probably might have selected another evening. We are only a little disappointed, but we understood neither show is a amounts story." The experiment wasn't HBO's first on Mondays. Two cases of "Six Foot Under" were broadcast on Mondays about about 10 years ago just before the series was gone to live in Sunday, plus an entire season of "Large Love" continued Mondays before eventually switching to Sunday. Neither show exercised well in the Monday timeslot. Lombardo mentioned that even though ratings are actually small for "Enlightened," people who watch are passionate, which he can keep that in consideration when determining when the show will probably be restored for just about any second season. Experts are actually kind too, while using skein rating greater on Metacritic.com than most new shows. Cinemax features a extended good status for restored suggests which were never large hits but were considerably congratulated, including "The Wire," "In Treatment" and "Treme." Producers and cast were made alert to the Monday change and informed that ratings typically takes popular. Cinemax didn't cash choice in moving both showcases Sunday. With "Boardwalk Empire" additionally to comedies "Hung" and "Making It within the usaInch presently airing, there simply wasn't room for "Enlightened" and "Bored to Dying." Holding them until "Boardwalk Empire" finishes its season on 12 ,. 11 wasn't a viable alternative either. Shows premiering through the winter season holidays don't fare well. The arrival Sunday slate is overflowing, and Cinemax may have more alluring situations to handle continuing to move forward. Internet has high wants the completely new David Milch-Michael Mann equine racing series "Luck," set to premiere on Jan. 29. Also searching for the initial quarter will be the return of "Eastbound minimizingInch along with the premieres in the Ough Gervais skein "Life's Far Too ShortInch and Chris Lilly's "Angry Boys." Quarter two includes the return of "Wager on Thrones" and, possibly, "Treme," together with the premieres of Lena Dunham's comedy "Women" and "Veep," starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Lombardo mentioned that even though Monday experiment has not worked out as planned, it doesn't mean Cinemax wouldn't attempt to branch to 1 more new evening again. However, it won't happen soon as it is not just a move which will come cheaply. "To rebrand a completely new evening would command a fiscal commitment that we're not prepared to make at this time around around," Lombardo mentioned. American Horror Story: What Else Goes Down on Halloween Night?
Padma Lakshmi, Tom Colicchio As we all know, everything is bigger in Texas - and that includes Top Chef.Top Chef heads to Texas for Season 9The Emmy-winning series hits the Lone Star State for Season 9 - bigger than ever before with an unprecedented 29 cheftestants. That's not the only difference this season though. Here are five things to know before you saddle up for the premiere (Wednesday, 10/9c, Bravo):1. Extra-large cast: Yes, this season will boast 29 cheftestants, but before you have a conniption trying to remember all the names and faces, know that they all won't be around for long. That's because the 29 are only hopefuls, and in the first two episodes, they will compete in three heats to win a spot in the 16-person cast. Producers came up with the change after the show's Emmy win last year (Season 8's All-Stars outing was already in production then), host Padma Lakshmi says. "We're coming off of an Emmy win. We're coming off people knowing and loving the show and being very familiar with the format," she told reporters on a conference call. "In a sense, the people that we have to top are ourselves and I think it's a challenge we face every day in doing the show to just make it better." Lakshmi and head judge Tom Colicchio love the cook-off addition because it forced the chefs to put their knives where their mouths were. "There were some people we were led to believe [in their audition tapes] would've been great contestants, really strong cooks, and they weren't good at all," he says.2. New places: Unlike past seasons and not counting the finale, the show will take place in three locations instead of one, Austin, Dallas and San Antonio - another result of trying to outdo themselves. "We hadn't been down to the South in a while. We had been to Miami several seasons ago. One thing that's great about traveling is that you really get to see local color and regional cooking. That's what this is about," Lakshmi says. "Moving cities is about making the show different and special every season. Every season, wherever we go, infuses the challenges with its own kind of flavor and influence. It was nice to be in Texas." VIDEO: Are Just Desserts' Gail Simmons and Johnny Iuzzini up for a Top Chef crossover?3. And new faces: Joining Lakshmi, Colicchio and Gail Simmons at Judges' Table will be Emeril Lagasse and Top Chef Masters alum Hugh Acheson, who will replace Anthony Bourdain and his notorious crude and cruel mouth. Though she did not name names, Lakshmi says she thought a judge was particularly insulting to a contestant - and not about his dish - not unlike how Bourdain dissed Fabio Viviani in the Season 8 premiere. "One of our contestants said, 'Hey, if you don't like my dish, tell me, but you don't have to insult me,'" Lakshmi recalls. "I actually think our contestant was right and I supported him."4. The defense will not rest: Speaking of Judges' Table, expect more fireworks and arguments from cheftestants, which Colicchio says he does not mind. "Aside from getting personal, they can defend all they want. If someone says, 'You don't know what you're talking about,' great! OK, that's fine, you're still going home," he says. There's nothing to take offense at. ... What Elia did last season - she personally attacked me afterwards. That I think is going too far, but even then, it was just like, 'Eh, let her do what she wants to say.' I commented on it and that was it. ... But please defend yourself. ... Just don't make it personal."5. So big, it's online too!: In a Redemption Island-esque twist, the show will launch a concurrent web series, Last Chance Kitchen, in which eliminated chefs - who are not aware of this - will cook for the opportunity to re-enter the competition. "I thought it was a great idea," Colicchio says. "It addresses the person whom the viewers think got a raw deal or maybe they were more talented, but were kicked out too soon. I think back to Tre who was kicked out in the middle of the competition for Restaurant Wars [in Season 3]. He made a series of bad dishes, but everybody thought we should've given him a break because he had competed and done well in some of the earlier episodes. ... We judge on that dish; it's not cumulative - so if you make a bad dish - you can win five [challenges] in a row - you're gone. [Last Chance Kitchen] gives that person the opportunity to get back in."
